Carrie, a young novelist living in London, has writer’s block. Her publisher offers her the use of a cottage on the East Coast that he shares with his partner as a retreat to unblock.
The cottage has a strange compelling hold over her and she begins to write a story over which she has no control.
The story that she writes concerns Erica, a girl of twelve and her mother who lived in the eighteenth century. The hardships and love that they both experience bind them inextricably to Carrie who, unknowing, holds the key to their peace.
Whilst living in the cottage Carrie meets Chris, a young man purporting to be an artist living in Aldeburgh and falls in love. She also meets Adam, an unscrupulous fisherman with a secret to hide. He wants her and is determined to have her at all costs. The two stories, parallel in time, come together in a terrible climax on the wild Suffolk coast.
The Story has humour, excitement and at times is sexually explicit.
